Discussion: The Godfather & La Jetee

The Godfather is a drama about the mob and family of Don Vito Corleone. I’ve never watched the movie prior to being assigned to it from this class, but I found the film to be entertaining. Though many of the scenes show dim lighting there are some significant pop of colors. The lack of lighting may represent a sense of importance or seriousness of a scene. When Don Vito Corleone is first introduced in the film a bright red rose sits on his tuxedo vest. The bright red rose is then seen again in the scene of Don Vito’s funeral.

La Jetée was an interesting film, not one I would normally watch. The movie is constructed entirely of still black and white photos and is only 28 minutes in length. The use of a voice over narrator along with the eerie background soundtrack achieved a fearful mood. Most movies present a total package with images, music, and words, but this movie pulls them apart. With the film being broken down in pieces it requires more attention than a movie such as The Godfather would.
